Original 2004 oil-on-panel landscape by noted Pennsylvania artist and Rutgers University Professor Emeritus William M. Hoffman Jr. (born 1934).
Painted on-site at Green Mead Farm along Route 711 in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, the work depicts a luminous Western Pennsylvania agricultural landscape with a traditional barn, silo, cultivated fields, distant hills and small human and vehicle details. Hoffman’s energetic brushwork and vibrant greens, golds and blues capture the character of the Ligonier Valley in early autumn.
The painting is signed “HOFFMAN” in the lower left and presented in a traditional gold-finished wood frame.
An unusually detailed provenance sheet, signed by William M. Hoffman Jr., remains attached to the back. It documents:

ARTIST
William M. Hoffman Jr. received his BFA through the coordinated program of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania, followed by an MFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art.
Hoffman taught painting, drawing and art foundations at Rutgers University–Camden from 1967 through 2000, serving multiple terms as department chair. His paintings have been exhibited regionally, nationally and in London. His work is represented in institutional collections including the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, New Jersey State Museum and Rutgers University.

CONDITION
The original painting presents very well, with vivid color and no observed punctures, flaking, repairs or significant paint loss. The gold-finished frame has visible age and display wear, including scratches, small nicks, rubbing, scattered finish loss and fine lines or separations in the decorative finish. One edge has a more noticeable small abrasion. The signed provenance document is housed in a protective sleeve attached to the back.
