The design is distinguished by its low-slung proportions, dramatically angled backrest and strong geometric silhouette. Each chair rests upon sculptural solid oak runner feet, creating an architectural profile characteristic of Penaat’s increasingly modern approach to furniture during the 1930s.

The chairs retain their original ivory upholstery, remarkably well preserved for their age. Subtle button detailing punctuates the upholstered backs, while contrasting dark nailhead trim follows the rear edges. The warm ivory upholstery provides a beautiful contrast against the sculptural oak bases, which retain an attractive age-appropriate patina.

With their remarkable sculptural form, original upholstery, historical significance and rarity as a matched pair, these chairs are an exceptional example of pre-war Dutch Modernist design.
