The chest features four generously proportioned graduated drawers with beautifully figured mahogany fronts framed by delicate contrasting string inlay. Ornate oval brass bail pulls feature neoclassical floral and geometric detailing and retain a wonderfully aged patina. Each drawer is centered by a small diamond-shaped inlaid keyhole escutcheon, believed to be ivory.

The top is particularly lovely, constructed in beautifully figured mahogany and finished with a traditional crossbanded border. Additional contrasting inlay along the lower edge of the case provides a subtle decorative detail above the classic shaped bracket feet.

The chest retains substantial early construction details, including its wide plank-built back, and has recently been professionally French polished, bringing remarkable depth and warmth to the mahogany while preserving the character expected of a piece more than two centuries old.

An exceptionally handsome and highly usable antique with a restrained elegance that works equally well in a traditional, English country, Federal, or collected contemporary interior. Its four full-width drawers offer excellent storage, while the relatively shallow 20-inch depth makes it particularly versatile as a bedroom chest, entryway piece, linen chest, or substantial bedside piece.

Condition: Excellent antique condition consistent with age and use. Professionally French polished. Expected minor age-related marks, variations, historic wear, and irregularities remain and contribute to the character of the piece.
