An exceptional English sterling silver teapot of richly ornamented late-Victorian/Edwardian character, assayed in Birmingham and bearing the sponsor’s mark attributed to Maleham & Yeomans.
The generously rounded body is extensively decorated in high-relief floral, foliate, and scrolling motifs, with textured diaper-pattern panels lending depth and dimension throughout. A fitted domed lid with ball finial crowns the vessel, while the elegant sweeping spout and substantial curved handle create a wonderfully sculptural silhouette. The handle is fitted with heat-insulating spacers, a refined and practical detail for serving tea.
The underside carries a group of British hallmarks including the Birmingham anchor assay-office mark, lion passant sterling standard mark, date letter, and maker/sponsor’s mark. The lion passant indicates sterling silver of .925 standard.
A striking example of English decorative silver—equally suitable for a traditional tea service, dining-room display, library, bar, or collector’s cabinet.
