An antique Chinese famille rose porcelain teapot, circa 1890 - 1900, with its fitted woven warming basket and padded textile cover. The cylindrical pot is hand-painted with a lively arrangement of colorful flowers, butterflies, and fruit motifs, complemented by a recessed lid and twin cord-wrapped wire handles.
The combination of vibrant porcelain, richly patinated basketry, and timeworn textiles gives this ensemble its particular charm. The fitted interior, faded patterned lining, and metal ring pull preserve thoughtful details of an everyday object made with considerable care.
The basket served as an insulated carrier, keeping brewed tea warm while protecting the porcelain. Its padded interior cradles the teapot, with a shaped opening accommodating the spout and a removable cover enclosing it between servings. These portable ensembles allowed tea to be carried and enjoyed during visits, travel, or outdoor gatherings.
