Pair of substantial vintage sculptural demilune side tables in heavily cast white plaster. Each table is formed as a substantial half-cylinder with a beautifully simple geometric silhouette and a hand-worked, textural surface.
Displayed together, the two demilunes form a nearly seamless circular table approximately 20 inches in diameter. Separated, they become a pair of architectural side tables, low pedestals, or minimalist sculptural objects. Their ability to shift between functional furniture and sculpture is particularly compelling.
The monolithic form and chalky white plaster finish recall the sculptural plaster furniture associated with John Dickinson, while the strong geometric profile has affinities with Karl Springer-era design and the broader experimental studio furniture of the 1970s and 1980s.
Particularly effective in an Organic Modern, Minimalist, Postmodern, Mediterranean Modern, or contemporary interior. Their restrained form also makes them excellent foils for more traditional rooms—used beside a sofa, flanking a fireplace, as bedside tables, or simply displayed as sculptural forms.
