c. 1920s; H.D. Lee Mercantile Company - Kansas City, MO
Single-sided porcelain enamel advertising sign for Lee Union-Alls workwear, featuring bold blue ground graphics with "Union Made" slogans and illustrated factory workers at either end. The central "Lee Union-Alls" trademark is rendered in heavy white lettering with black shadowing and gold accent lines, while the lower text reads "For Comfort, Economy, Safety!" The imagery and language strongly reflect Depression-era and wartime American labor branding, emphasizing durability, skilled trades, and union manufacturing standards.
The illustrated figures depict workers in Lee coveralls holding tools, reinforcing the garment's intended industrial and mechanical market. Signs of this type were typically mounted in hardware stores, workwear dealers, garages, factories, or agricultural supply buildings. The porcelain construction and vivid commercial graphics made them durable outdoor advertisements while also functioning as highly recognizable brand displays tied to American industrial labor culture.
