The board is made of no ordinary marble. The white flecks on the black marble are fossils over 350 million years old. These prehistoric embedded cephalopods are called Orthoceras, intricate ancient marine forms preserved in stone, each piece completely unique. The chess set pieces are irregular and hand shaped, with a matte chalky finish. The forms are brutalist and organic - an earthy, modern take on the chess board.
