East German Modernism with a documented history: This Type 602/B cabinet, crafted from exquisite ash wood, was designed by the renowned Bauhaus student Franz Ehrlich for the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau. The original production stamp, dated August 7, 1962, is located on the back. Franz Ehrlich began designing the legendary 602 series in 1956. It is considered a milestone of GDR design, combining the functional principles of the Bauhaus with the understated elegance of Scandinavian design. Characteristic features of the series include the organic wooden legs and the expressive grain of the Sen ash. The piece also excels in functionality: behind the double doors, which can be locked with the original lock, the interior offers ample storage space. The shelves are adjustable, making the cabinet versatile – whether as an elegant linen cupboard, a bar, or a compact storage solution for the living area. We have completely restored the cabinet, thoroughly sanded it, and re-oiled it. The characteristic grain of the ash wood is thus revealed once again in a warm, velvety depth. On the tabletop, signs of wear bear witness to its previous owner's life and lend the piece an honest patina. Everything that could be removed was taken away. However, we often choose to preserve the remaining veneer rather than destroy it simply to erase all traces of its past. Even in the interior, not everything could be completely removed.
