Wheatley builds the barn from narrow vertical strokes of white and pale gray, each board slightly different from the one beside it, so the broad wall reads as weathered wood rather than a flat plane. A gray roofline cuts a clean diagonal across the composition and meets at a low peak. A single dark window sits under the gable, and a spare gray-and-black rectangle anchors the lower left, a graphic note that keeps the piece from settling into pure realism. Above the roof the sky is worked in soft gold and cream, the light of a summer evening rather than a specific hour. The paint is applied thickly enough that the texture catches raking light.
