A deep red barn stands square to the viewer and fills most of the canvas, its gambrel roof rising to a shallow peak with a small dark vent below it. The vertical boarding is drawn in fine darker lines and the red shifts from warm to nearly brown across the wall. A dark open doorway sits at the center of the lower wall with a small dark window to either side. Behind the building the sky is pale grey-blue carrying soft white cloud. Along the bottom the ground is a broad band of white and cream, scumbled and flecked, reading as snow.

The painting measures 48 inches high by 36 inches wide. It is unframed, but ready to hang.
