Two elements: a round, cake-form … Read more A whimsical aluminum sculpture titled "Piece of Cake," by Pennsylvania sculptor Herbert Simon, dated 1992. Two elements: a round, cake-form base with a textured, frosting-like surface, and a wedge-shaped serving piece with an integrated server handle, presented as if freshly cut. Signed and dated by the artist directly into the metal on both elements — "Piece of Cake, H. Simon 1992 (First Part)" and "(Second Part)."

Herbert Simon studied with Hans Hofmann, Robert Motherwell, and Philip Guston in the late 1940s and early 1950s, before teaching sculpture and three-dimensional design at Wilkes University from 1969–1992. His public works are installed throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, including "Facets" at Wilkes University and "Two Modules" in Coal Street Park, both in Wilkes-Barre, and "Aloft" at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) in Avoca.
