A substantial antique Victorian Aesthetic Movement mixed-metal necklace featuring a coordinated floral locket pendant and a series of individually decorated oval panel links.

Dating to approximately 1880–1895 and likely British/English in origin, the necklace reflects the late-19th-century Aesthetic and Japonisme taste for asymmetrical botanical ornament and contrasting metal surfaces.

Each oval link features a richly textured, hammered silver-tone ground accented by parallel rose/copper-tone bands and delicate applied or inlaid botanical decoration in contrasting yellow-gold, rose/copper and silvery tones.

The central oval locket continues the same design vocabulary with an asymmetrical floral and foliate composition, engraved leaf veining and finely worked contrasting-metal details.

The necklace is completely unmarked. Based on construction, design and known period comparisons, it is believed to date to the late Victorian Aesthetic Movement, circa 1880–1895, and is likely British.

Antique condition with expected surface wear, patina, oxidation, scratches and age-related discoloration consistent with a piece of this age. The hinge of the locket is broken and the locket separates at the hinge; this is being offered as found and unrestored. No attempt has been made to polish, repair or chemically clean the piece. Please consider the broken hinge an important part of the condition description. The original aged surfaces and mixed-metal contrasts have been preserved. See less
