An evocative impressionist-style oil painting on canvas of the Port de Nice with a view of the Église Notre-Dame du Port de Nice by Russian-French artist André Petroff (1894-1975). The piece captures the port at dusk using a calming pallate and expressive brushwork characteristic of Petroff’s style. Though unsigned, the painting is presented in a beautifully carved wood frame with parcel gilt detailing, complete with an affixed artist’s plate.
André Petroff was a Russian artist who worked in the French Riviera. In 1909-1914, he studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts and graduated from the course with a gold medal.
