A sculptural Swedish pendant designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson for AB Markaryd, demonstrating the designer’s characteristic approach to controlled, glare-free illumination.
Constructed in layered aluminum, the fixture uses a series of concentric shades to conceal the light source while directing illumination downward and outward.
The result is both functional and architectural: a restrained Scandinavian form that changes character when viewed from different angles.
Jakobsson established his lighting company in Markaryd, Sweden, in the early 1950s and became known for fixtures that emphasized atmosphere, proportion, and indirect light.
This pendant reflects those ideas particularly well, combining simple materials with carefully considered geometry.
The aluminum surfaces retain their original vintage character, including scattered oxidation, small marks, and age-related surface wear visible in the photographs. These characteristics have been intentionally preserved rather than refinished.
