Designed by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup in 1965, the Diskos pendant is an exceptionally clean expression of Danish modern lighting.
The broad aluminum disc appears to float beneath its suspension point, concealing the light source within a layered system of louvers and a synthetic diffuser. The result is controlled, comfortable illumination without interrupting the fixture’s remarkably simple profile.
At approximately 18.25 inches in diameter, the Diskos has enough scale to command a dining area, living space or architectural interior while maintaining the restrained visual language for which Hammerborg’s work is known.
Hammerborg served as Fog & Mørup’s chief designer during the company’s celebrated postwar period, creating a body of lighting that helped define Danish modernism internationally. The Diskos was introduced in 1965 and was produced in several metal finishes. Documented examples of the aluminum version closely correspond in scale and construction to this fixture.
