The composition depicts a fortified hilltop structure set within a sparse landscape of trees and gently rising terrain. Executed in warm brown ink, the drawing combines fine architectural linework with a looser treatment of the surrounding landscape. Broad areas of untouched paper give the work a restrained, modern graphic quality.

Rolando Meallesi was born in Collelungo, San Venanzo, and spent much of his life living and working in Marsciano, Umbria, in the Province of Perugia. His practice encompassed drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and mural work, and he exhibited in Italy and abroad. Works by Meallesi are also represented in public collections in Marsciano.

The drawing was acquired from the Las Vegas estate of an Italian collector originally from the Perugia region of Umbria. The estate contained a broader collection of artworks acquired by the owner over time. This regional connection is particularly relevant given Meallesi’s long association with Marsciano, also in the Province of Perugia.

Presented under plexiglass with a wide taupe-gray mat in a slim dark frame with metallic inner trim.
