The substantial scalloped top is richly decorated with an intricate arrangement of floral and foliate motifs, centred by a circular rosette and surrounded by concentric carved borders.

The sides are equally impressive, constructed with multiple panels of pierced and relief-carved decoration depicting stylised leaves and botanical motifs. Each panel is framed by elaborately carved vertical supports and rails, with the original dark metal hinges adding further character and suggesting the table’s practical folding or opening construction.

The warm honey-brown timber retains a wonderful aged patina, with variations in colour, natural grain, softened edges and areas of wear that highlight its age and handmade nature. The carving is particularly attractive for its depth and irregularity, giving the piece an authentic antique character rather than an overly refined or recently restored appearance.

A highly decorative and versatile piece, equally suited to use as an occasional table, lamp table, drinks table or simply as a sculptural accent within a traditional, eclectic or globally inspired interior. See less
