Provenance Château de Selincourt (Somme) - attesting to the distinguished domestic history of this refined piece of tableware.
Paris, circa 1860–1890.
A graceful Empire-style teapot in silver-plated metal by Victor Saglier (1809–1894), a distinguished Parisian silversmith known for refined domestic silver and silver-plate of the Second Empire and Third Republic periods.
The teapot presents the characteristic vocabulary of the Empire taste: an eagle-head spout of sculptural precision, claw feet terminating in palmette supports, and a rosewood handle providing an elegant warm counterpoint to the silvered body.
Hallmarked with the VS maker's mark and the voilier (sailing ship) quality mark.
