Signed early 20th-century etching by martin gradier, depicting a picturesque european village landscape with stone architecture, red-tiled roofs, trees, and water.
executed using the traditional intaglio etching (eau-forte) technique, the work combines finely etched architectural and landscape linework with delicate applied color. A distinct plate mark surrounds the image, and the work is hand-signed “martin gradier” in the lower margin.
the paper bears a partial watermark reading “arc…”, possibly associated with the historic french arches paper mill, known for fine printmaking papers. The complete watermark has not been exposed, so the arches attribution remains unconfirmed.
presented behind old glass with characteristic small bubbles and imperfections, in a slender silver-tone vintage frame with aged mount and backing. The overall presentation retains an attractive period patina.
a charming example of french early 20th-century graphic art and traditional intaglio printmaking, particularly suited to a collected european interior, gallery wall, study, or library.
