His stylized works exemplified the graphic style of the 1970s in hundreds of album covers for EMI, Angel and Decca Records, elaborate color spreads for Cosmopolitan Magazine, title sequences and posters for countless Hollywood films and as the primary packaging designer for Mattel’s Barbie Dolls during the 1960s-1970s. Although he was and remained married to the fashion illustrator Judy Woodruff for many years, his longtime companion was the film producer Neil Hartley. In his later years he became more open about his sexuality and this painting reflects a certain freedom of expression that was always evident to keen observers of his work over the decades, but artfully portrayed under the cover of the female form.
