Antique Pair Edmé Samson Paris Chelsea-Style Porcelain Bird Potpourri Urns
Made in France c. 1885-1920
Each Approx. 6 1/4" High × 6" Long Handle-to-Handle × 4 3/4" Wide at Widest Point x 1 7/8" Diameter op Opening.
A striking matched pair of antique French porcelain two-handled pedestal urns attributed to Edmé Samson et Cie., Paris, decorated in the 18th-century Chelsea style and dating to the late 19th/early 20th century.
Each urn is finely hand-painted with a colorful exotic long-tailed bird standing amid flowering foliage and greenery.
The shoulders are encircled with individually painted pink, purple and orange flowers and green leaves, complemented by molded twin handles, pale blue details and extensive hand-applied gilding.
Each base bears a gold pseudo-Chelsea anchor mark, a mark associated with Samson's Chelsea-style porcelain.
The large, neatly finished and gilded circular opening at the top measures approximately 1 7/8 inches.
The form is consistent with a decorative potpourri-type urn.
Shipping: Carefully packed together with substantial cushioning and separation. Estimated packed carton: 16 × 14 × 12 in.; estimated final packed shipping weight: 9 lb.
Excellent pre-owned antique condition. No cracks noted. There is a very small chip along the upper edge of one pedestal/base, largely concealed beneath the body when assembled. The cardboard spacer between the porcelain body and pedestal sits slightly askew, suggesting the components may have been separated and reassembled at some point in the past. This does not significantly detract from the appearance when displayed. Minor gilt and surface wear consistent with age and use. Please review condition carefully.
