Exceptional pair of vintage Italian marble side tables commissioned for and used in the Gucci boutique at 900 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago when it opened in the late 80s.
Made in Italy, each table features a substantial round marble top with beautiful natural veining in warm cream, caramel and beige tones. The thick stone tops have softly rounded bullnose edges and fit over richly -figured burl veneer cylindrical bases.
The architectural form and luxurious combination of materials are characteristic of sophisticated Italian design of the 1980s. Their clean cylindrical silhouettes also give them a remarkably current presence, making the pair equally suited to contemporary, Postmodern or eclectic interiors.
At 24 inches in diameter, these are generously scaled side tables with considerably more presence than typical occasional tables. Their 19-inch height works beautifully beside a sofa or substantial lounge chairs.
An unusual combination of Italian design, beautiful stone and Chicago fashion history.
