Large circular single-sided porcelain advertising sign for the H.J. Heinz Company of Pittsburgh. Dating to approximately 1900, the sign features the iconic Heinz "57 Varieties" graphics and green pickle emblem surrounded by bold red, white, black, and yellow lettering reading "Pure Food Products."
Heinz introduced its now-famous pickle charm at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Visitors were directed to the company's out-of-the-way exhibition booth with the promise of a free souvenir, and the resulting pickle promotion became one of Heinz's most enduring advertising symbols.
This substantial early advertising sign offers a dramatic example of American commercial graphics and branded porcelain signage.
