Inspired by the celebrated American art glass lamps of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the piece has the warmth and decorative presence that made the Tiffany aesthetic so enduring. The broad shade and substantial base give the lamp excellent proportions, while its rich amber, cream, and deep brown glass produces a particularly warm glow when illuminated.

The shade is assembled from hundreds of individually fitted pieces of textured and opalescent glass joined in the traditional leaded construction. Concentric geometric bands transition into a repeating scalloped border around the lower edge, giving the shade a strong architectural quality without becoming overly ornate. The base is an unusually nice feature, cast with a textured trunk rising from exposed roots that spread organically across the circular brass base. Together, the naturalistic base and earth-toned glass give the lamp a strong Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau influence and make it considerably more interesting than many later Tiffany-style lamps.

The lamp is in nice vintage condition with the expected surface wear, patina, and minor imperfections associated with age and normal use. The brass has developed an attractive aged surface that we have left intact, and the shade presents beautifully both illuminated and unlit. As with any vintage electrical fixture, the wiring should be evaluated for suitability in its intended installation.
