Elegant early 20th-century Italian centerpiece by Salviati, crafted in richly colored ruby-pink crystal with extensive cut and polished decoration.
The broad shallow bowl features a dramatic radiating starburst at the center, surrounded by a border of large polished oval cuts. It rests on a separate pedestal base with a sculptural baluster-form stem and matching radial cutting to the flared foot.
The unusual two-piece construction allows the bowl to lift completely from the pedestal while maintaining the appearance of a unified tazza or compote when assembled. The coordinated color, proportions, and repeating cut decoration give the piece a particularly architectural presence.
Salviati was founded in Venice in 1859 and became one of the best-known names in Murano glass, producing both traditional Venetian forms and technically accomplished decorative glass for an international clientele.
A substantial and sophisticated centerpiece, equally striking displayed empty or used as a fruit or decorative bowl.
