Overview:
Immerse your space in dreamlike nostalgia with "By the Airplane" ("У самолета"), a commanding, large-scale original oil painting on canvas by the highly collected contemporary Belarusian artist Aleksandr Poklad. Completed in 2004, this evocative piece captures a cinematic, sepia-toned vignette of childhood wonder. A group of seven children and a uniformed figure stand gathered beneath the sweeping shadow of a massive, glowing golden biplane, creating a poignant narrative that balances historical memory with a fairytale-like atmosphere.
Artist Background & Provenance:
Born in 1969, Aleksandr Poklad is an academically trained master who graduated from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Minsk in 1997. His works are celebrated across Eastern and Western Europe, with pieces held in the permanent collection of the Contemporary Visual Arts Museum in Minsk, as well as elite private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. The reverse side of this canvas features full, hand-written Cyrillic authentication directly from the artist's studio, detailing his name, the title, the medium, metric dimensions (70x100 cm), and the 2004 date. It is signed on the lower right face of the canvas in Latin script ("A. Poklad").
Artistic Style & Execution:
Poklad utilizes a highly unique palette dominated by rich ambers, glowing ochres, and deep, velvety browns. The figures feature the slightly elongated, expressive proportions characteristic of contemporary Eastern European figurative art. The canvas boasts a beautifully worked, scratched, and layered patina that mimics the weathered texture of an early 20th-century vintage photograph. This fascinating interplay of light and shadow makes the entire scene appear to radiate with an internal, golden luminescence.
Framing & Presentation:
The artwork is housed in a spectacular custom gallery frame that perfectly complements its moody, historic aesthetic. The substantial wood frame features a dark, complex basket-weave patterned face bordered by a delicate gilded gold beaded liner, which effortlessly catches the eye and draws it into the warm tones of the canvas. The reverse side is wired and ready for immediate exhibition.
Designer Notes:
With its generous proportions (approx. 28" x 40" canvas size) and masculine, nostalgic themes, this museum-quality work is a spectacular choice for a luxury library, executive office, or sophisticated mid-century modern living space. It offers a rare combination of strong narrative appeal, verified investment value, and exceptional decorative presense.
