The work features layered turquoise, teal, violet, magenta, blue and white passages with expressive texture, palette-knife work and areas of pronounced impasto.

Clarke was active in Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley arts community and served as Director of Art du Jour Gallery in Medford, Oregon. Art du Jour is a long-running member-owned cooperative gallery operated by working artists.

The painting is signed “M. Clarke” on the front and retains identifying information on the reverse, including the handwritten title “Spring Return” by Millie Clarke and an original gallery/artist card identifying the work as acrylic with a $350 gallery price.

Provenance: Acquired directly from Millie Clarke by the present owner when the artist retired from active art practice. The painting has remained in the present owner’s collection since that acquisition.

This is a particularly appealing example of Clarke’s abstract work, with a fresh spring-inspired palette and substantial surface texture. Presented in a contemporary black frame and ready to hang.
