Among the most resilient domestic textiles of Anatolia, mid-century Turkish kilims woven from goat hair represent a deeply practical folk tradition prized for extreme durability and natural weather resistance. Traditionally favored by semi-nomadic Yörük tribes for crafting tent covers, grain sacks, and protective ground mats, goat hair yields a remarkably coarse, tactile handle that standard wool cannot replicate. Woven as a flatweave on a traditional village loom, this 1950s example is notable for its earthy, highly textured foundation of warm taupe, brown, and red—an effect achieved by intricately spinning natural light and dark un-dyed fibers together before weaving.
