A striking matched set of six vintage Erle Stanley Gardner mystery novels published by the International Readers League, New York, circa 1946. Bound in coordinating deep brown and burgundy-toned covers with gilt lettering and linear gilt decoration across the spines, the books create a particularly handsome vintage library display.
The six titles are The Case of the Careless Kitten, The Case of the Dangerous Dowager, The Case of the Smoking Chimney, The Case of the Stuttering Bishop, The Case of the Backward Mule, and The Case of the Curious Bride.
Gardner, best known as the creator of Perry Mason, was one of the most prolific American mystery writers of the 20th century. This cohesive group has wonderful visual character from decades of natural aging, with warm-toned page edges and gently timeworn bindings that give the set an authentic old-library presence.
