An extremely rare masterwork of early industrial design by christian derungs. Founded as a small workshop in gossau in 1939, these durable luminaires were produced in the following years under the german designation „universal-gelenklampe“. Pieces from this early production phase featuring heavy joints, the original matte finish, and the original label on the lamp shade possess true museum-grade quality and are virtually impossible to find on the market today. The sophisticated construction with two articulated arms allows for precise light positioning. Thanks to its characterful appearance and warm aesthetic, it makes an excellent statement piece not only in professional settings such as architect offices or studios, but also as a stylish highlight in modern interiors, on a desk, or as a striking reading light. The vertical pin is seated in a heavy, solid metal base, ensuring high stability while offering great flexibility. A fascinating document from the early beginnings of the manufacturer before the company later focused on medical technology.
condition
the lamp is essentially in its authentic original condition with a beautiful, natural patina that reflects its decades-long history. The joint mechanics operate reliably. Only the fabric cable was renewed over recent decades, ensuring the luminaire is ready for use today. The solid steel base harmoniously complements the luminaire in both function and appearance.
