The chairs have beautifully shaped frames in dark oak, with the slightly chunky, almost sculptural construction that makes their work so recognizable. Both chairs have recently been fully restored. The oak frames were carefully stripped and refinished by hand, bringing back the depth and beautiful grain of the wood while keeping its natural character. They were then reupholstered in a wonderful warm orange cotton velvet by Pierre Frey. A beautiful quality textile and a particularly good match with the dark oak. There is also a nice bit of history behind the makers. Before turning to furniture, the company behind their production specialised in making wooden stocks for hunting rifles. That background in shaping and working solid timber somehow makes perfect sense when you look at these chairs — especially the beautifully carved backrests and substantial oak construction. Quite a lot of work went into this pair, both in the upholstery and the restoration of the frames, and they are now in excellent condition and ready to go. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
