Excellent and rare art nouveau ceramic piece from the early 20th century: a lady in a crinoline with her hair … Read more Excellent and rare art nouveau ceramic piece from the early 20th century: a lady in a crinoline with her hair pinned up and adorned with flowers, her head turned to the right as she sits at a spinet and plays it. Without a base, made of grey earthenware, glazed white and painted black. By bertold loeffler (1874 - 1960): sculptor and ceramist, worked for keramos from 1921 and was the most productive sculptor of the keramos company with more than 800 models. As a freelance sculptor, he also designed models for wiener keramik and vereinigte wiener und gmundner keramik. Manufactured by the united vienna & gmunden ceramics ('vereinigte wiener & gmundner keramik') ceramic, bright earthenware, glossy finish, black hand-painting, designed ca. 1908, made 1913-1918 marks: wk + grapes - wiener keramik / = vienna ceramics kg + flower - gmundner keramik / = gmunden ceramics - partly visible model number 285 dimensions: height: 15,0 cm / 5.90 in width: 17,0 cm / 6.69 in depth: 12,5 cm / 4.92 in bibliography: - thomas arlt / arthur weilinger, wiener keramik / vienna ceramics bertold löffler, michael powolny, werkverzeichnis / catalog of works, 2018, wien / vienna; page 322, number 285 - waltraud neuwirth, markenlexikon für kunstgewerbe (3), wiener keramik, modelle 1906-13 / (= encyclopedia of marks of applied arts / viennese ceramics - models 1906-13); page 200, number 285 condition: very good - usual signs of age this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
