The large circular mirror is surrounded by a square frame composed of individually cut pieces of wood, arranged in an intricate mosaic-like pattern. The wooden elements have been finished in warm golden and amber tones, with the natural grain and end-grain of the wood deliberately incorporated into the composition. Dark lines separate the individual pieces and emphasize the irregular geometric arrangement, giving the frame the appearance of a handcrafted mosaic. Circular sections of the wood create particularly striking organic motifs and lend the otherwise geometric design a sculptural quality. The combination of the round mirror, square format and richly textured gilt wood surface is characteristic of the experimental decorative arts of German post-war modernism. The mirror has a wonderfully warm palette ranging from pale gold and ochre to deep amber and brown. Subtle variations and traces of age throughout the surface add further depth and character. A highly decorative and unusual piece that functions equally well as a mirror and as a piece of wall art. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
