Large Vintage Mediterranean Revival Beveled Wood & Antiqued Gilt Metal Scrollwork Wall Mirror
An impressive large-scale vintage wall mirror combining a warm, richly finished wood frame with an elaborate antiqued gilt metal architectural surround.
Measuring approximately 53 inches high by 44 inches wide, the mirror makes a substantial decorative statement while retaining an elegant openwork appearance.
The rectangular mirror plate features a handsome beveled perimeter and is set within a substantial warm brown wood frame displaying attractive tonal variation and character.
Surrounding the wood frame is an elaborate openwork metal structure featuring large symmetrical C- and S-scrolls, scrolling acanthus-style foliage, floral rosettes and an impressive architectural crest.
The upper crest is particularly striking, with sweeping symmetrical scrollwork surrounding two suspended floral rosettes and culminating in a stylized central foliate finial. Narrow openwork side panels continue the scrolling foliate decoration along the full height of the wood frame.
The metalwork is finished in an attractive antiqued gold, bronze and brown coloration, with darker patinated detailing emphasizing the contours and dimensional ornament.
The combination of warm wood, antiqued gilt metal and beveled mirror glass gives the piece a sophisticated Mediterranean Revival / Tuscan / Spanish Revival / Old World character.
At 53 inches tall and 44 inches wide, the mirror is particularly well suited as a statement piece above a large console, sideboard or chest, or for use in an entry hall, dining room, living room or bedroom.
The reverse retains its wood backing panel, hanging hardware, inventory labels and identification markings, including "01101" and a larger stenciled inventory/production number. The manufacturer has not been definitively identified.
