The elongated rectangular panel centers a highly stylized human face framed by deeply carved geometric ornamentation. Diamond bands, angular chevrons and linear motifs are rendered in a subdued palette of earthen red, black, ochre and natural wood, creating a wonderfully graphic composition.

Pende artistic traditions are particularly celebrated for expressive figural sculpture, masks and carved architectural elements. Comparable Pende panels demonstrate closely related geometric and figural vocabulary.

This example is offered as an attributed Pende decorative panel; provenance documenting ceremonial use or a precise date is not available.
