Large 11” Vintage Acoma Pueblo Fine-Line Olla Jar - Signed "Acoma I.S."Item OverviewOrigin: Acoma Pueblo (Sky City), New Mexico, USAArtisan: Signed "Acoma I.S." on the base (attributed to the late 20th/early 21st-century contemporary period)Vessel Type: Traditional Olla / Wide-Shouldered Storage JarPattern Style: "Eye-Dazzler" Fine-Line Monochrome GeometricDimensions: Approximately 11 inches in height
Up for sale is an exceptional and highly striking example of contemporary Acoma Pueblo pottery featuring an incredibly complex "eye-dazzler" fine-line geometric motif. Standing at a commanding 11 inches, this olla vessel commands immense visual presence and showcases the remarkable spatial skill required by elite Pueblo pottery artisans
The entirety of the vessel's swelling shoulder and neck is meticulously hand-decorated with dense bands of parallel hatching and contrasting black-and-white stepped geometric patterns. In traditional Acoma iconography, these dynamic fine-line structures represent natural elements including falling rain and sweeping winds. The base of the piece is beautifully finished with a rich terracotta-toned slip and bears the crisp hand-painted signature "Acoma I.S." on the bottom.
