Striking pair of vintage mid-century modern fiberglass stacking chairs by Howell of St. Charles, Illinois. Dating to approximately the 1960s, these chairs feature warm mustard-yellow molded fiberglass shells with beautifully visible fiberglass strands and bronze-tone square tubular metal frames.
This matched pair features the distinctive three-line molded detail across the lower backrest. Each chair is permanently marked on the underside with a molded “HOWELL / ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS” manufacturer’s imprint.
A wonderful example of American mid-century institutional design, with sculptural molded shells and slim stacking frames. Their saturated golden-yellow color works especially well with walnut, teak and other mid-century furnishings.
