This is a rare Frank Engle piece from the 1940s! An internationally known sculptor and designer, he was commissioned several times throughout his career, most notably by the Ford Motor Company to design their first emblem that had a center chevron and 3 lions.
Known for his sculptures, particularly animals and horses in particular, this ceramic horse mug is in amazing condition for its age, with no chips or cracks. The base has the rare, impressed Engle mark, not the stamped Engle studio mark. An excellent find!
