The expressive carved bird features dramatically outstretched wings, a sculptural hooked beak, upright ear-like points, and bold hand-painted detailing in red, black, green, cream and natural wood tones. Visible carving marks and hand-applied paint give the piece wonderful folk-art character.

The accompanying Alaska Black Diamond literature discusses the tradition of Southeast Alaska totem carving and references bear, eagle, raven and whale imagery within Alaskan Native culture. This sculpture is being offered as an Alaska-made decorative folk-art/totemic carving; no specific tribal or individual artist attribution is being made.

Mounted on its original rectangular wooden base. A striking small-scale sculptural accent for a bookshelf, console, desk or collected folk-art interior.

Original Alaska Black Diamond literature is included with the sculpture.

Condition

Good vintage condition. Light age-appropriate wear, minor paint wear and surface irregularities consistent with a hand-carved and hand-painted piece. Natural variations and tool marks are present throughout. Original “Made in Alaska” label remains affixed to the underside. Original paper literature shows age and handling wear.
