The piece … Read more Unusual antique American pottery corner wall shelf or bracket featuring a wonderful relief-molded American eagle supporting the shelf.

The piece is made of yellow/buff earthenware with a rich mottled brown and yellow Rockingham-type glaze. The molded eagle has nicely detailed feathers and gives the bracket a particularly strong folk-art/Americana appearance. The semicircular upper shelf has a molded decorative border.

The back is hollow and designed to fit into the corner of a room. An old hanging wire is currently attached through the mounting hole.

Approximately 9” high × 7½” wide/deep in each direction.

Unmarked except for an impressed “22” on its top.

Estate fresh condition with overall age-related crazing and wear. There are approximately four or five small chips/glaze losses, including losses to the outer edges and eagle’s wings, as shown. There is also an unglazed/worn area at the very bottom of the eagle. No major breakage noted. Please examine all photographs closely for condition.

A scarce and highly decorative piece of antique American yellowware/Rockingham-glazed pottery, particularly appealing for a collection of Americana, eagle decor, folk pottery or early wall brackets. See less
