It celebrates the bicentennial of the Constitution’s signing. J. Del Conner, the artist who fashioned it, is a direct descendent of Philip Syng, Jr., the silversmith who crafted the Independence Hall Ink Stand in 1752 that was used during the signing of both Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Although the use of firebacks have been largely displaced by newer construction materials, they’re still the best way to protect a hearth's back wall from damage and to reflect light and heat out into a room.
