Distinguished by their imposing vertical proportions and extraordinary material presence, these wall lights combine the expressive qualities of hand-worked Murano glass with the clean architectural geometry characteristic of Italian modernist lighting from the period. Each sconce features a substantial curved diffuser formed from thick opalescent and “ghiaccio” Murano glass. The elongated central section displays a delicate pale aquamarine tone with softly opalescent passages, while the upper and lower sections present a clearer, ice-like appearance. The different glass areas merge organically, creating subtle transitions between transparency, color and diffused light. The surface is deliberately irregular and richly textured. Gentle undulations, small bubbles, variations in thickness and hand-worked edges animate the glass, producing shifting reflections and optical distortions as the viewer moves around the sconces. The particularly substantial upper and lower bands resemble blocks of melting ice, reinforcing the sculptural character of the design. Viewed from the side, each diffuser curves outward from the wall in a generous semicircular profile. This enveloping form partially conceals the light sources while allowing illumination to travel through the full thickness of the glass. Each sconce is fitted with two vertically arranged light sources mounted on an architectural silver-toned metal backplate. When illuminated, the two bulbs appear as warm points of light suspended within the glass. Their glow is softened and refracted by the opalescent central body, while the irregular “ghiaccio” surfaces create luminous ripples and reflections. Light also escapes through the open upper and lower sections, projecting dramatic fan-shaped patterns across the surrounding wall. The resulting effect is atmospheric and architectural, transforming the pair into a composition of glass, light and shadow. When switched off, the sconces remain powerful decorative objects. Their tall cylindrical silhouettes, subtle aquamarine coloration and massive glass construction give them the presence of small architectural sculptures. Both sconces retain their original “Toso Selezione – Murano – Made in Italy” labels, an important detail confirming their manufacture. Their substantial dimensions make the pair particularly suitable for installation beside an important doorway, mirror, fireplace or artwork. They would also create a striking rhythmic composition in an entrance hall, dining room or large living space. The sconces retain their original European wiring. Professional rewiring for use in the United States is available upon request and is included in the asking price. The original silver-toned metal structures display light wear, surface marks and oxidation consistent with age and use. The naturally developed vintage character has been preserved. Sold as a pair.
