These remarkable fixtures combine substantial hand-blown Murano glass diffusers with restrained architectural brass mounts, perfectly expressing the balance between sculptural craftsmanship and functional design that distinguished Seguso’s lighting production during this period. Each diffuser takes the form of a deep, open flower cup. The thick glass rises from a narrow circular base before expanding outward through a rhythmic succession of pronounced vertical ribs. These ribs culminate in a beautifully undulating, scalloped rim composed of alternating rounded petals, creating a dynamic botanical silhouette reminiscent of a flower in full bloom. The generous thickness of the crystal gives each sconce an extraordinary sense of depth and material richness. Seen from the front, the elongated ribs converge toward the base like the veins of a leaf or the folds of an opening corolla. Viewed from above, the diffuser reveals its elegant radial construction, with the light source positioned at its center like a luminous pistil. The transparent Murano glass displays a delicate greenish-straw tint, particularly visible along the thickest edges. This subtle coloration, together with small bubbles and artisanal irregularities within the glass, contributes to the authentic character of these early hand-blown examples. When switched off, the sconces remain compelling sculptural objects. Their projecting ribs and curved surfaces capture the surrounding light, producing constantly changing reflections and optical distortions. When illuminated, the deep fluting collects and refracts the light, emphasizing every fold and projecting a delicate succession of petal-shaped reflections onto the wall. The open upper rim allows light to escape upward, creating a soft atmospheric halo around each fixture. The resulting effect is warm, elegant and remarkably decorative. The diffusers are supported by period brass mounts of strong architectural character. Each mount consists of a broad rectilinear cantilevered arm terminating in a softly rounded cylindrical front, surmounted by a circular brass collar that discreetly supports the glass. The rigorous horizontal geometry of the mounts provides a refined contrast with the fluid, organic forms of the diffusers. The brass retains a naturally developed patina, with warm bronze and golden tones, subtle oxidation and gentle variations accumulated over time. This original aged finish has been preserved rather than aggressively polished. Their compact proportions and upward-directed illumination make these sconces particularly versatile. They would be striking installed symmetrically beside a mirror, doorway, fireplace or artwork, as well as in a hallway, bedroom, powder room or intimate sitting area. Archimede Seguso was one of the most important Murano glassmakers of the twentieth century and a founding figure of Seguso Vetri d’Arte. His work from the 1930s and 1940s is particularly admired for its technical virtuosity, substantial modelling and ability to translate organic inspiration into sophisticated decorative forms. The sconces have been professionally rewired for use in the United States and are fitted with one standard Edison E26 medium-base socket each. Dimensions per sconce: Glass diameter: 18 cm / 7.09 in Overall depth: 21.5 cm / 8.46 in Overall height: 16 cm / 6.30 in Good vintage condition, with glass condition issues carefully documented in the photographs. One diffuser presents a small hairline extending from the upper opening. The other displays several internal hairlines within the substantial mass of the glass, apparently developed over time around original air bubbles created during the hand-blowing process. These lines remain internal or localized, the diffusers are stable, and the noted conditions do not prevent their installation or use. The condition is clearly shown in the detailed photographs and has been fully taken into account in the asking price. For this reason, the pair is offered at a substantially reduced price compared with another identical pair in excellent condition available among our listings, should that pair still be unsold. Minor bubbles, inclusions, variations in thickness and subtle differences between the two diffusers are inherent to artisanal Murano glass production. The period brass mounts retain their original patina, oxidation and light wear consistent with age. Sold as a pair. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
