The restrained architectural design is characteristic of German furniture of the mid-19th century, with clean proportions, panelled doors, subtly moulded details and short block feet. Opening the two doors reveals three full-width drawers, each fitted with small brass handles. This combination of cabinet and chest of drawers makes the piece particularly practical while maintaining a beautifully simple exterior. The cabinet has been painted in a soft off-white / light grey tone at a later date. Traces of age and use remain visible and contribute to its character. A versatile piece that could be used as a small sideboard, linen cabinet, bedroom chest or hallway cabinet. Germany, circa 1860. See less
