The approximately 12-foot-long by 3-foot-6-inch-wide format provides an impressive continuous surface for the rug's intricate pattern.

The field consists of repeated dark indigo geometric medallions arranged within an interconnected red and brown lattice. Numerous smaller hooked and angular elements fill the spaces between the larger motifs, creating a remarkably dense pattern without disturbing the overall symmetry. Small ivory and dark-centered diamond devices appear at regular intervals, providing subtle points of brightness against the darker background.

The main border provides a strong architectural frame around the field. Large angular motifs repeat continuously against a saturated red ground, while narrow geometric guard borders in ivory, dark brown, red, and black visually separate the field from the outer border. The design relies almost entirely on geometric abstraction, giving the rug a strong tribal character.

Its coloration is one of its most appealing features. Deep madder-like red and rust tones dominate the composition, accompanied by dark chocolate brown, nearly black brown, indigo, navy blue, ivory, cream, and small lighter accents. More than a century of use has softened the original tones and produced the subtle variations and patina visible across the surface.

The surviving flatwoven end finishes are especially decorative, displaying horizontal bands in brown, muted red, and dark blue, together with a narrow ivory geometric line. These details provide an attractive transition between the piled field and the fringed ends and help preserve the distinctly handwoven character of the piece. See less
