It is a table scaled for a room and its company, built from two materials that warm to each other rather than compete.

Roman travertine is the stone of ancient Rome, formed in the mineral springs around Tivoli and used across the Colosseum and the colonnades of St Peter's Square. It carries a soft, creamy beige tone, its delicate linear veining and gently layered structure warmer and more understated than the marbles. The base answers in solid European oak, its honey-toned, open grain warming to the stone above so the travertine and oak settle into a single, considered pairing. These tops are cut from natural stone, and no two of these Roman travertine and oak dining tables are ever quite the same.

Below the top, two solid oak boards are notched and slotted one through the other into a self-supporting cross-leg base. There is no bracket, no metal and no visible fixing, only the join itself doing the structural work.

Quiet and composed, the Roman travertine and oak dining table holds a room without demanding it, as at ease at the centre of a dining space as anywhere. The Dalma is an Italian dining table made to order in Cantù, in Lombardy's long-established furniture district, drawn from full-slab stone, solid timber, and premium Italian glass. See less
