Albert Schöpflin

Painter, draftsman, photographer, filmmaker, installation artist.

He came from the Schöpflin family of entrepreneurs, who ran a textile factory and a mail-order business in Lörrach.

Initially, he worked as a photo assistant in various photo studios.

1967–69 Attended the State Academy of Photography in Munich.

In 1969, he moved to New York and became an assistant to Mikel Avedon and Bill King. Schöpflin also came into contact with Andy Warhol's social circle, who was filming scenes in Bill King's studio at the time.

from 1969 to 1971, he lived in the legendary, landmark Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, New York. The documentary "Chelsea Hotel 1970" was made during this time.

In 1974, he moved back to Germany and had a studio in Frankfurt am Main.
from the 1980s onward, he began drawing and painting.

In 1985, he moved to Munich.

from 1983 to 1988, he was a lecturer at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

from 1990 onward, he retreated to his studio in Seeshaupt to be able to work undisturbed as an artist. He decided to dedicate himself exclusively to freelance art.

In 2001, he founded the Schöpflin Foundation (Brombach) with his siblings Hans W. Schöpflin, Heidi Junghanss Schöpflin, and Albert Schöpflin.

Since 2004, he has lived in Riehen near Basel.

In 2012, Scopin discovered asphalt as an artistic medium.
