This is a low table for the space in front of a sofa, built so that the marble carries the piece while everything around it stays deliberately spare.

Calacatta Viola is an Italian marble quarried in the Carrara region of Tuscany, known to Renaissance Florence as Breccia Medicea, the marble of the Medici. Across a cool white ground run veins of violet, burgundy and plum, drawn with the loose confidence of brushwork rather than the regularity of geology. Every top is cut from its own block, so no two of these Calacatta Viola marble coffee tables are quite alike.

Beneath the top, the making is all economy. Two panels of the same stone meet perpendicular and lock together into a self-supporting cross-leg base, one slotting through the other, the join left in open view as the single detail the design allows itself.

Quiet and composed, the Calacatta Viola marble coffee table holds a room without demanding it, as at ease in front of a sofa as anywhere. The Ishiki is an Italian coffee table made to order in Cantù, in Lombardy's long-established furniture district, drawn from full-slab stone, solid timber, and premium Italian glass. See less
