The flowering trees are particularly beautiful, with thickly worked passages of white and pink against a blue spring sky and green meadow.

The heavily textured impasto, vigorous brushwork and luminous treatment of the flowering trees give this small landscape a distinctly Post Impressionist, Van Gogh inspired character.

The painting is signed in the lower right, although the artist's name has not yet been conclusively identified.

The reverse provides an unusual and intriguing piece of provenance. A handwritten dedication appears to read “Pančevo, 15 XI 1921”, or November 15, 1921, followed by a personal inscription beginning “Za uspomenu…” (“For remembrance” / “As a remembrance”). The wording appears to indicate that the painting was presented as a personal gift, possibly within a family.

The painting remains in a substantial period wood frame with a beautifully aged surface. The reverse paper shows age-related deterioration, which is visible in the photographs.

There is an inscription on the back. It is dated Pančevo, 15 XI 1921”, or November 15, 1921, (Pančevo is a city in Vojvodina (South Banat), Serbia, about 10 miles northeast of Belgrade). The inscription says "As a keepsake for Tanja and Lara, from mom Dara and dad Ilija."
